I have spent many years of my childhood in Hasting as my Nan lives there (still does) has done all her life and she is 90 this year.
Year in year out as a child at coombe haven, summer days on the beach/rockpools with the amazing backdrop of the walkway with all the coloured bottles, playing the old penny slots with my grandad on the peir, wandering through the old town!, aaaah such fond memories!!, the fishermans museum and the little wooden shop is still there today (I know as was ther only last week)!!
I love hastings, it will always hold a very fond place in my heart!!

My family and I have just returned from Hastings, having stayed in a lovely hotel, White Rock Hotel next to the theatre. What a lovely setting - sea views, peace and quiet and delicious, well presented meals on the terrace of the hotel. I would recommend this family style hotel for it's wonderful cafe bar and friendly happy service.
Plenty to do in Hastings and surrounding area to keep a family busy for a week or two. My favourite on this occasion was a walk from Winchelsea back to Hastings. It's 10 miles long so if you want a shorter option go for the Hastings Country Park.

The man I love grew up in Hastings, he moved to Spain about 3 years ago. We usually fly to England to visit his family 2/3 times a year, some of them live in Hastings. I simply love it. The sea front and the views from up hill in the old town are impresive. Outstanding !
Besides, he's got a lovely family, so loving and affectionate to me :-)
I look forward to going soon.
Great website, very useful

I don't remember where but I found a postcard of George Street, Hastings couple months ago and I was so impressed. It's a picture taken in a rainy night. This picture is taking me inside and makes me want to visit Hastings. I am studying in New York right now and any time I fly to Istanbul, I try to see Hastings:) The postcard is attached on my wall..

I lived in St. Leonards from 1950 to 1972 and went to the old St.Pauls School and The Grove. My grandmother has a guest house in London Road near the old Regal Cinema.
St.Leonards was a wonderful place to grow up in. Left there long ago, often wander what happened to all my old schoolchums and friends.

Kudos to this Website. I have considered Hastings as my home for the last 8 years now, and people from my home country would often ask me what Hastings has to offer; and in the past, I'd end up describing places we've been to, and the great experiences we've had since we moved here to work locally.
Thank GOD for this website because now, all I have to do when fellow Filipino friends and relatives ask me things about HASTINGS is to refer them to your website. It's informative, easy to navigate, and filled with fascinating stories and eye - captivating photos.
Congratulations!

I have not yet visited the UK but, hope to come very soon and Hastings is my first destination. The love of my life lives there and I will be coming to be with him. I must say that of all the websites out there, yours is the most enjoyable, asy to use and navigate through and by far the most comprehensive of its kind. I am very impressed with it and get a real sense of both the history of Hastings and all it has to offer both residents and visitors alike. I've heard many conflicitng things about Hastings but, even though I'm not a seasoned UK resident yet, I find I am much more prone to believe the good that I've heard. I am looking very forward to coming to Hastings and finding my home with the man I love, friends and happiness. Have a wonderful season and much good fortune in the years ahead.

I found this website very interesting and informative. I wanted to find out as much as I can about the area to see if it would suit me to live there, and must say that I am totally confused by the mixed messages. It looks to me as if there is much of interest there, and I love the sea, but comments on the forum were very scathing, regarding the neglect of the area, and the quality of life. On the other hand many visitors have stated they love the place. There is only one thing for it, I must come down and see for myself.

I´d really like to contact with my teachers in 1996: Lisa, Phil (old people now...).

Greetings - Was amazed to find the two photos of Normanhurst in 1891 - the very year Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Victoria Ka'iulani of the Kingdom of Hawai'i stayed briefly with the Brasseys. I've seen paintings of Normanhurst before, but never photos. As a researcher into the Princess' life (a third of which was spent in England) this was fascinating.
