I lived in Bexhill until 1960 when I moved to Canada. I have many fond memories, rekindled by this visit to your site, of wonderful times in Hastings as a teenager - especially Saturday nights on the pier. Thankyou.

I lived with my grandma at 22 Wellinton Square During the second world war 1940's. I have such memories and so found your site. I was looking for bottle Alley. I am homesick.
Bob Dylan says don't look back soooo, anyway it is good to see pictures and things. thanks

I'm reseaching an obscure writer, Lionel Britton, who worked at Netherwood about 1937-40. At the time it appears to have been some kind of socialist guest house experiment, from what I can make of his letters. Can anyone help me anymore?

I used to live in St Leonards seafront during 1999-2002. It brought up me lots of both good and bad memories when I found this site. I would absolutely love to visit there but would not choose to live there again.

i'd like to say this is an interesting website, hastings is shown in a positive light. to see photos and local history was somethings i thought i'd never do, must say so far so good!

however there are a few things that could be adapted, for example
negative views.

hand on my heart i can honestly say, hastings is a nice place to visit and live but needs many changes, there is not alot of attractions, things that people would like to do/see.

also for local childern there is not much to do, many hang around on streets untill late at night, shouldn't there be sometings to prevent this?

hastings is more a tourists place that for locals.

i'll continue visiting the site bye x

It was 13 years ago when I visited Hastings. Now I am over 30. I thought I still remembered a lot about the city. But after seeing photos in this site, I noticed that I forgot many beautiful scenery in Hastings. But because of this site, I could bring my precious memories to my mind... I remember a little boy, Luke taught me about his favorite cartoon when we took a walk near pier. For me it was like yesterday's event but that boy will became 20 years old in couple years. Time passes really fast. (I am still young!!) What is Hastings like now? I am very sure it is still lovely!!

My mother and I have always had a fascination with this beautiful town especially as it is the only vague connection we have to my grandmother's childhood. Does anybody know of a private school for young ladies at Tackleway Hastings as I am trying to look into the background of my grandmother who would have attended there sometime between 1920-1932? She then went onto a C of E school in St Leonards. The school was for young ladies of single parentage, similar to an orphanage. Or perhaps someone may remember a very quiet/shy child, the only one with NO parents who attended this school. Would really appreciate any help as we have no records of her past other than her mother's name which was Ethel Day. As far as we know my grandmother was born in April 1918.

Very interesting Website. I lived in London Road St Leonards in the mid 40's, close to where the Regal cinema used to be. Went to school at (then) St Leonards Secondary Modern - now Tower Road School I believe. Liked the photo gallery. Lots of memories!

An inspiring and quite satisfying site, but lacks objective news information on local life in the area that visitors would like to know about, also negative aspects. Hence showing good will towards improvement.
Thank you Adrian V. Pastorello

I used to live in St Leonards-on-sea at the NCH Childrens Home at 125 West Hill Rd, from 1958-1965. I have really fond and happy memories of my time spent there. Have visited Hastings & St Leonards only recently to visit relatives there, was shocked to find the home had been knocked down! What a shock. Can any locals reading this guestbook enlighten me as to when this happened. I still love to visit Hastings & St Leonards as they are lovely.

Just come back from long weekend in Hastings beautiful place! The awful B&B we stayed in was the only downer. Melrose Guest House on De Cham road, not at all friendly owners with no inclination to make their guests happy! gave us a curfew on the first night we went out, threw us out of the B&B at 1.30 Sunday afternoon! I could go on but i just want to forget that awful place!!!!!

We've just come back from a long weekend in Hasting, the weather was great the entertainment was great, the motorbikes passing us on our way home (A21) was great, the only downer was Stalkhurst Camping Site, in 15 years of caravanning it is the first site I wouldn't recommend.

What a fantastic site! I am just starting to research my family's history and Hastings is my first port of call.

My GF was the eldest of 3 children and along with his brother George, was sent to Australia in 1923. His sister Nancy Laura Watson (born 1918)remained. He also had 2 aunties; Alice Whinhurst (nee Watson born 1884) and Amy Watson (born 1895). In 1922 they resided at 15 & 31 Paynton Rd Silver Hill and also 42 George St Hastings.

Love to hear from anyone who may be a relative.

Stacey Watson from Canberra, Australia
